Hi everyone! I very much like to use SMS on my Slim PS2 for multimedia tasks.
Want to thank to EEUG for creation of such a nice software. Seriously I do not know what we would use our PS2 for if we could have no SMS.
When sony issued PS2—it only could play Audio-CD and DVD-Video. I am so afraid to think that it could stay such way always and forever.
Actually SMS is not only useful software-- it also “Lens-saving” software because all the files which we want to play in SMS do not require to use CD or DVD only.
Since I started to play AVI, MP3 and JPG in SMS---I never used any DVD or CD anymore for multimedia files to play on my PS2.
But what disappoints me is this:

SMS was for long time not updated. Since we got version 2.9 revision 4—the development of SMS stopped. But it has to be updated for sure and I will tell you why.
The reason for update is because it lacks very important features which must be added to SMS for sure.
And the problem here is that without EEUG it is not possible to add those features which SMS lacks.
I am sure 100% that it can accommodate a lot of useful features , but without features which I will tell about right now—SMS just can not exist because those features are not just necessary but I would say very essential for SMS.
I will count them right now:
    1.InterNET Radio.
People lets admit that we live in age when internet changes its meaning. Before it was difficult to get quick internet at home. Remember when it was not possible to hire even Dial-UP connection 56Kbit/sec? Like it was not money-wise to use it and so on.
The situation changed a little bit since ADSL started to appear in our homes. You pay Abo once in a month and you can use it as much as you wish.
But even more---We live at time, maybe not wanting to notice for some reason, that new technology is coming to our homes which is called---FTTH and FTTB.
You will ask what it is?
And I will answer: It Is “Fiber Optical Line to the Home and to the Building” which uses ethernet technology to transmit very huge amount of information.
But what does this mean for “Average Joe” or for “Consumers” or “PS2 Users”?
Only one thing -----That “InterNET” came to our homes once and for all.
    “InterNET” will be always.
So , How can we ignore it? How can we ignore “InterNET”? It Is the most advanced invention –people could create.
How it is related to SMS? Simple.
SMS is software which is used to play multimedia files. AVI-MP3-JPG---sounds nice.
But we must extend its multimedia abilities. I personally like to do all the multimedia tasks in one software which is SMS. Of course we have some other soft, but lets admit that 95,5% of us likes and all the time uses SMS for Multimedia. So lets be loyal to our favorite software.
Next step in SMS Evolution is InterNET Radio.
Can you imagine –You turn on SMS, and it gives you ability to play Radio Stations from the Whole World. It can be music , news, science –anything you like to listen to.
Also SMS can get ability to download and play “PodCasts”. I am sure 100% that a lot of us like to listen to favorite podcasts. I like to listen to podcasts about games. What is your favorite podcasts?
Also possibility to support RSS-Feeds. It can be used differently. For downloading video and audio files through RSS and then to play them, or also for reading RSS News from InterNET.
You decide what you like it used to be for.
Also we need support in SMS for FLV -files. You Tube is now very popular. A lot of people like to see videos from you tube. I do not know like can SMS support Flash to play videos directly from you Tube,
but maybe it possible for SMS to play FLV after the file is downloaded? And also a lot of videos on You Tube in standard definition format---so playing I think must be possible.
If SMS could show InterNET Web-Pages it would very cool and just awesome.

So people How can we ignore InterNET if it is already in our Homes once and for all?

2.Second thing which must be taken care of in SMS is SMB. Let us be honest and admit that “Tuning of SMB in SMS” and further “Playing of Files through it” is tough thing to do.
There are two options to choose from----create txt-file or use red-host client.
Lets admit that neither one is actually comfortable for PS2 User.
    What I would do?
I would use the same method which is used in OPL. Very Simple.
SMS must have the same tab in its menu --like OPL has—I mean in terms of functionality. And you can input necessary IP Addresses there and also Guest name and Port for connection. This way it will become very easy for every user to tune SMB and also InterNET connection for SMS.
Also I would add support for DHCP- in SMS to get IP -Addresses automatically for InterNET Connection.

3.Third thing which must be taken care of is VGA Video Output.
Lately everyone of us has discovered that PS2 is High Definition Capable.
PS2 can output such Video Modes:
    RESOLUTION-------------HORIZONTAL SYNCHRONIZATION----------------VERTICAL SYNCHRONIZATION

    640*480----------------------------31,6 Khz---------------------------------------------60 Hz
    640*480----------------------------37,8 Khz---------------------------------------------72 Hz
    640*480----------------------------37,5 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz*
    640*480---------------------------- ? Khz-------------------------------------------- 85 Hz*
    800*600----------------------------35,1 Khz---------------------------------------------56 Hz
    800*600----------------------------37,8 Khz---------------------------------------------60 Hz
    800*600----------------------------48,0 Khz---------------------------------------------72 Hz
    800*600----------------------------46,9 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz
    800*600---------------------------- ? Khz-------------------------------------------- 85 Hz
    1024*768----------------------------48,5 Khz----------------------------------------------60 Hz
    1024*768-----------------------------56,8 Khz---------------------------------------------70 Hz
    1024*768-----------------------------60,0 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz
    1024*768----------------------------- ? Khz----------------------------------------------85 Hz
    1280*1024----------------------------64,1 Khz---------------------------------------------60 Hz
    1280*1024----------------------------80,0 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz

And also PS2 can output such HDTV modes-480p/576p/720p/1080i.
All HDTV Video-Modes are implemented in SMS but support for VGA Video Modes is limited to only resolution which is 640*480@60 and 75 Hz and to my opinion it has to be extended to full range of VGA Video Resolutions.
I tried to turn on 720p for HDTV and the Menu looks really nice in high definition.
Lately I created VGA PS2 Video Cable. My Monitor can show picture through such cable but VGA in 640*480 does not look so nice as 720p-- because VGA needs higher resolution to be output from PS2 to be compared with 720p in terms of picture quality.
    Thats why I am asking to add support for full set of VGA modes—640*480(480p); 800*600(600p);
    1024*768(768p); 1280*1024(1024p).
I am sure that majority of PS2 Users would be also happy if more Vga Modes would be possible to choose from.
Those things which I talked about, I believe are very much essential for SMS and must be implemented. Can we stay passive and ignore it? No we cant.
So I am sure 100% that SMS v2.9 rev.4 must not be the last one. Every PS2 User would be very happy if new revision would be released for audience.
