Does SMS support the playing of .m3u files. Cause ive seen screenshots of mp3's in a playlist, but i cant load any of my playlists in .m3u.
Also if you can generate playlists on the fly, how do you do so?
sorry if its a noob question

SMS only supports M3U files with relative paths, so if yours use absolute paths, then they won't work. SMS is also picky about the contents of M3U files and will not work right if they lack #EXTM3U entries for any of the MP3s, so simple playlists with only the file paths do not work.Originally Posted by golf7
It doesn't generate M3U files (at least I don't think it can), but it can play all MP3s inside a folder, as if there was a playlist. You just select the folder and press the 'Circle' button. But that will only play files directly inside that folder, so for subfolders you'll have to browse one level deeper, to select them individually before pressing 'Circle'.Also if you can generate playlists on the fly, how do you do so?

thanks, i think my m3u's wont work because they dont have the #EXTM3U info with them. Maybe that could be a future feature to add is support for basic m3u's.
Hi there guys,
Seems most of my MP3's dont have the #EXTM3U info either.
Is there anyway to find this info out, is it pointless in me doing so?
I want to put about 1 or 2 gigs of MP3 on my HDD and access it from there with SMS, just dont want the music to stop after playing a single file.
Has anyone had a similar problem or found a better way of playing a folder of MP3's?
Thanks in advance I am really happy with SMS![]()
I had the same problem and it was because I was using VLC media player to make the m3u file,I solved it by making a playlist with the dreaded Windows Media Player.
VLC is much better than Bill's crappy media player, for a start it has codecs built in and so far it has played everything I have thrown at it including dvd ans vcd disc images without mounting them, the only 2 formats I have found that don't work are raw avi(they do work but are very stuttery) and real media files but I don't like using real files anyway so it's no big deal.
When I find an incompatible m3u file, I usually load it in winamp, then I save it over the old one. If you open the file with a text editor you can see that winamp creates m3u files with the #EXTM3U info in it. It´s a bit of a work, but works like a champ for me.
Now we can use the new Version of SMS does this affect my attempts on a
m3u file?
Relative paths meaning what, can someone pls explain in real simple English pls?
Thanks![]()
The playlist support in SMS has always needed relative paths, so no big deal there.
The only difference with the new version is that the playlists dont need to have the #EXTM3U info (I think that's it).
As for relative paths, here's an example: having the playlist file in C:\ u can have "C:\MUSIC\whatever.mp3" (full path) or "MUSIC\whatever.mp3" (relative path).
What is the maximum lenght of the folder name and file name ??
and it is possible some char cause problem ?? ex : é è
Tanks
How should a playlist file look? I've tried several combinations and i still get an unsupported file format error...
I've 1 file named 1.mp3 in root.
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:1.mp3
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:214,track name
1.mp3
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,1.mp3
1.mp3
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,1.mp3
None of these work. I'm using "official" SMS 1.7.5.
