Alright I looked at the user manual to try and figure out how to use SMS but it was no help at all. Can someone go step by step on how to use this please?

either use the memory card exploit (fat ps2 only, not slim)
    www.exploitstation.com

or, if you have a modchip, make a disc, i suggest with uLaunchELF. look in the PS2 Homebrew section on this site for the download... then put it on a disc using these steps:
    http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45961

make sure to also add SMS to the disc

Have you actually read the manual?

    http://www.daveandzoe.plus.com/sms/HTML/en/index.html

This is a step by step guide with screenshots of everything. If it's really no help to you, please can you tell me how far you get before you get stuck? I've tried to make it as simple as possible to follow, and so far, you're the first of 21 000 visitors to the manual to say 'it was no help at all'.

I am assuming you are having trouble with installation. Please let us know if you have a mod chip or not first, if so which type.

If you are completely new to all this, with no modchip, I'm guessing the thing you are probably stuck on is installing the independence exploit, if that's the case, go here: http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=faq This page is linked from the requirements section of the manual.

the OP is not very helpful with his questions, therefore we cannot always be too helpful with our answers... hence the iso... which i am now making.
