How to make sms run from my mem. card, I couldnt do it.

Hey guys, I`ll be pleased if somebody be able to help me on this one.
I just hard modded my ps2 slim so I`m a newbie, I downloaded the sms image cd with uLaunchELF and I made it run from the cd it runs perfectly I can even play my movies from my Ipod. But when I copied the files to the folder BOOT om my mem.car and I start the console pressing R1 it just won`t work.
Please help me on this thread.

PS. I`m copying from my usb pen drive that came with action replay max evo.

as the FAQ says, not all modchips support that boot method. you will need to tell us what kind of modchip you have if you want any more help than this.

for a definite answer, you should look on the modchip manufacturers website, or you could try the modchip forums http://psx-scene.com/forums/ps2-modchips/

Thanks for the information, my mod chip Here in Brazil are called Murano III Grande SL, actually I never heard about this mod chip until I went to the place to install it. If somebody know it please tell me if it are able to play sms directly from my Mem. Card.

A quick Google search for "Murano III Grande SL", resulted in a few hits, the most interesting of which was this link. The information on those pages mentions nothing about Dev1, or any other term for launching ELFs from memory card, so I have to assume that your chip does not have any such ability. You will need to boot from a disc every time, but naturally you can let that disc start a program which can handle the launching of any other ELFs you want to run from any PS2 media you wish, be it MC, USB or whatever. I would suggest preparing a boot CD with uLaunchELF for that purpose.

Edit: oops! In my first draft of this reply I made a slight error, looking at and linking to a page for the older version of the chip, this has now been corrected in my link above.

The only real difference as far as I can tell is that the SL model will use what they call 'stealth' mode, which is the same thing that others call 'auto-sleep'. This is a very bad thing for most homebrew purposes, as it means that the PS2 can NOT read burned media except during the initial boot. Fortunately SMS allows you to use CDDAFS and DVD-Video format to get around that limitation, and both SMS and uLaunchELF can also read USB drives too, so that's another way around it.

I would like to thank you dlanor for all the information you gathered about my mod chip, at least now I know my murano III is the best one of the 3 different models available.
And using the uLaunchELF option.
