how do i convert .mkv to .avi?

hai?

i got a lot of anim in .mkv! but that isnt possible to play on SMS!
so i googled and fond a software that can convert to avi (Video Cleaner)

but after i convert it to .avi there is screen, but no sound and its like all is going faster!? whats the best way to convert it to good playable .avi that is possble to play on SMS?

No sound and wrong speed means that the audio codec is incompatible with SMS. You need to use MP3 or AC3 for the audio. That converter program you used can probably fix that too, if you just configure it properly. (Most converters can at least handle MP3.)

Here you'll find all possible kinds of conversion tutorials. I use VirtualDUB to convert my mkv files to avi. Works like a charm and takes just a few minutes.

Alltoavi http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/ (mainly a front end for mencoder) best to use if you don't have alot of time to sit there and figure out what to do. This program just does what you want it to do. Convert.

virtualDUB is probably the best choice though. Although its probably the most difficult to use.

last time i had that mkv, i dled a software which can separte the vids avi on mkv... forgot what the program, but it didnt need to reconvert cus mkv sources are simply avi and other files like subs..

yup, mkv is just a container of video, sound, chapter's list and subtitles so converting it to avi is really fast (and only a little longer if audio conversion is needed)

now i remember it.. MKVEXTRACTGUI, thats the name of the program. yeah it will just extract video (avi or ogm), audio (mp3, ogg, ac3), and subtitle (srt, etc..) on mkv video. give it a try. yeah isearch this program for converting mkv to avi, this program did well, no lost of vid quality and u dont have to wait converting to avi... this will work if u have avi on mkv unless a ogm video was use on the mkv vid u need other app to convert the extracted ogm video to avi...
