Tried to stream a high resolution xvid (1280x720) with 5.1 audio over the network but it didnt play that well to say the least. Picture was all blurry. I've been reading a bit here and as far as I can see we are not sure if the CPU is powerful enough.. That would be really sad cause playing high resolution xvids like this would be a really cool feature.
So, question is: Is there any possible chance this could be supported in the future? What do you think?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe this is supported by the Xbox (please correct me if I'm wrong). I'm pretty sure the Xbox at least play these files from hdd. Shouldnt then the PS2 be able to play them too? Afterall, the CPU in the PS2 is not THAT slow, right?

    Thanks for your great work!

...I suspect that XBox uses Intel's x86 CPU, for which assembly optimized decoder's code is available for years. For Playstation2's MIPS is quite a different story (to say nothing of the fact that it runs at 300MHz)...

hehe... well, you're right of course. Having a x86 cpu has it's advantages

So reading between the lines here, we can not expect too much in this area for quite some time, right? Sad news but it's understandable.. thanks again for a great program!

The X-Box has a Pentium III and it's a 700mhz. So it's twice as fast and it also has twice the RAM. PS2 has 32MB, X-Box has 64MB.

well, ps2 and xbox have different processor (cisc and risc) so one is unable to judge performance via clock speed alone.

For what I tested SMS can play well in high resolutions up to 720*576, over that resolution performance degradation would be experienced (hardware limitatons), but for those very high resolutions for HDTV, have to wait for PS3...

What bitrate were those videos? I had trouble playing video with a bitrate of about 1020 and MP3 audio with a bitrate of 128.
