HDD/network problem

For the past few days I've been messing around with different revisions of SMS, radhostclient and ps2client with some success.

I can manage to connect in pretty much any manner but the transfer speeds jump from 40KB/s to 12000KB/s randomly the entire time a transfer is active. Sometimes a file will finish, but I tried sending a few 7-800mb movie files over while I was asleep and all it did was finish one movie over the entire course of my sleeping. So for one I wanted to know if its possible to make the speed stay at 12000, maybe if I just have the PC and ps2 connected to the router with no internet attached?

Two, when I do manage to get a transfer going in uLe which is to the partition I formatted on my HD for videos, it will send for about 10-15 minutes and just freeze requiring a restart. So I get tiny bursts of high speed surrounded by long periods of just nothing, you see the download time cut by like a 6th when its actually moving, but then it just stops again and sits there. So if it would've stayed at 12000 the entire time, all my files would be on the HDD in minutes.

So beyond this, I still managed to get pretty much all the videos I wanted on here... I go to play them and sometimes SMS just freezes right in the browser(not as much as when I was trying to get network support working though, that was just a nightmare). Sometimes the file plays right(only about 3 files actually worked out of what I tested as most of what I uploaded were shows), sometimes the video starts and it just repeats the first few seconds. When I hit pause, there is no slider to navigate through the video... it just says pause or if i hit select again it just says nothing.

So far I have no remedy for these videos and my only possible thought is maybe with how completely screwed up the transfers are with dropping connections left and right, the videos I cant play are due to this networking problem. I've tried different SMS versions, and I was even trying ps2reality today just to get SOMETHING that might even partially work for the majority of my videos.

Any help appreciated because I looked for this kind of question and haven't found anyone with quite the same problem... the transfer speed thing is a minor issue, the files made it to the HD which is the important thing(it would just be a hell of a lot more convenient when i see the constant speed for a few seconds and the file is done, rather than a burst of like 10% then it stops for 5 minutes, then another burst of 10%... im just thinking huh if you could magically link together those bursts well there you go, your file is on there nearly instantaneously.

Then again I am not at all well-versed in networking, ps2 or PC... so I can't say for sure... maybe theres some kind of bottleneck going on or maybe uLe/radhost/ps2client cant handle a constant high speed which kind of sucks. I am most concerned about keeping the transfer from freezing in the case it makes problems for the video files... and then of course playing the files, I can see the partition just fine with every video I put on there. Some of them just don't make it past a few seconds and they are definitely encoded in divx. Regardless, for EVERY video there is no such thing as a slider in the pause menu to pick where i want to start the video, which I would've thought would be a way to get past that few seconds where it messed up, who knows though.
