I'm trying to find out (for the purposes of the user manual), which is the best DVD format to use for SMS avi data files. If anyone has any particular knowledge or experience on this (e.g. whether any versions of the PS2 work with certain media), please share it here.

I think either +R or -R is good. It just depends on who made the disc. Here is a good guide for DVD brands: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

interesting, these format wars... such a big fuss, but hey, everything i own, including the PS2 will work with any disc i throw at it...

edit: until now, when the ps2 will work with no disc i throw at it.

but i buy DVD-R mostly, just because it sounds like CD-R

I use +R most of the times. There cheaper (at least here they are) and there fysical better than -R. With fysical I mean the way they're build and work. (If you want more info on this use google and search for the differents between +R and -R. About RW, I never use that one. When I'm burning something I want to keep it and not remove it. I have a usb pen drive for that So I never use RW's

i never use RW's simply cause the media itself is pretty much unwriteable after a couple of weeks the way i treat it.

I have Ps2 version 3 early version moded but It will not read dvd +r nor dvd -r.
    but there is a way : )
Any media dvd+r is fine with SMS PRovided your drives support bitsetting!!!

    1.) Get a dvd burner with bitsetting/booktype feature,recomended benQ 1640,1650,liteon,Lg,etc
2.)If you don't have a burner the support bitsetting feature there is always unofficial software out the the enable this feature ....* beware don't ever buy Imation Dvd-writter,the ****ing drives does not have bitsetting feature,e-mailing to the techhelp does not offer solution at all *
3.)What does bitsetting does over here is it will burn the booktype of any dvd +r to dvd-rom.Thus Ps2/xbox will read it properly....no more illegal disk : )

    Here the infomation on booktype
    http://www.booktypefaq.com/

*Ps: pls Include this in SMS Manual "
