I've been trying real hard to get DVD-RW discs to work with SMS. I've read the other posts here about it but so far I haven't had any luck.

    My setup:
    PS2 v7 SCPH39002
    Messiah 2 modchip (I think)

This is what I have done so far:
    * DVD-R discs will not read if I write them as data discs, I have to use the DVD-Video trick.
    * DVD-RW in data mode does not work
    * DVD-RW burnt as DVD-Video does not work
    * DVD-RW burnt as DVD-Video with Book Type set to DVD-ROM does not work.

Other than that, I don't know what else I can try. Does anyone have any more suggestions?

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I would focus my efforts on DVD-R as data disks. When RW works (and it does on my v7) it stresses the laser to an early death. Since you are successful with burning DVD-video properly, it appears that your console will not read RW.

Yea, that's the conclusion that I came to: That DVD-RW won't work on my console.

But seeing as lots of other people have success with the same setup surely it must be possibly.... :/ oh well, I think I'm just gonna use my USB drive...

USB is by far more convenient. and you can get a 1GB drive for $35 these days no problem.
