Howd u burn it, as a data dvd right? it should work but if you did burn it as a data dvd and it didnt work then try burning as dvd-video with the video dummy files.

I had the same problem, I have a modchip but the ps2 wasnt reading the divx data dvd, I put the divx files onto the main folder and put in the dummy files as the tutorial said for ps2s without modchips and sms detected that dvd properly which was pretty weird.

So ya i say try doing what I did, it should work.

i guess its just a few modchips that have trouble with this then... perhaps we should change the warning to say it could cause problems, not will cause problems... at the time we had only one test case to go on.

and btw... i guess unless you bought it... the answer to your subject line is yes.

This could also result from poor burn quality/media or your laser performance suffering/dying. If you're confident the format is right, try different media (brand, or type +/-R) and burn speeds. If you eject and re-insert the disk 10 times, does it ever work?

PS2 expects a DVD with ISO and UDF filesystem. Crappy Winblows Joilet/Romeo discs won't do it. A good idea is use Nero and set it up to burn as ISO/UDF (It has that option so it must work just fine if youi set it up right.)

If the disc has wrong format the PS2 will refuse to read. As the others stated burning speed and brand media are also vital for sucess on this.

And the "Burn as DVD video" thing works because the DVD video filesystem is also ISO/UDF.

Hi all the guide here seem wrong here!
I have Ps2 version 3 early version moded but It will not read dvd +r nor dvd -r.
    but there is a way : )

    1.) Get a dvd burner with bitsetting/booktype feature,recomended benQ 1640,1650,liteon,Lg,etc
2.)If you don't have a burner the support bitsetting feature there is always unofficial software out the the enable this feature ....* beware don't ever buy Imation Dvd-writter,the ****ing drives does not have bitsetting feature,e-mailing to the techhelp does not offer solution at all *
3.)What does bitsetting does over here is it will burn the booktype of any dvd +r to dvd-rom.Thus Ps2/xbox will read it properly....no more illegal disk : )

    Here the infomation on booktype
    http://www.booktypefaq.com/

*Ps: pls Include this in SMS Manual "
