Creating an SMS video player dvd (not CD) –
02-03-2007,10:49 AM
hey guys, i am pretty new to this player and i got an old copy from a friend on a dvd. now the player works great with my swap magic 2.0 dvd but i would like to upgrade it.
i believe that version 1.9 is out and would like to recreate a dvd like i have but with the newer files. the steps and image on the website are for a cd only and i dont have th cd swap magic disc.
does anyone know how i can make a dvd disc version of the SMS video player?
I have the same problem, i have modchip but my ps2 doesnt like cds very much, its a pain to boot it from cd , i tried converting the image generated with cdgenps2 to dvd but i cant make it boot.
If someone knows how to make a dvd image instead of cd i would apreciatte it
Not saying I've tried this, but if you make the ISO too big for a CD (900MB+), wouldn't it instead have to burn it as a DVD, isn't this all that would need to be done?
EDIT: You can use dummyfile to make the ISO bigger. Get dummyfile from this post. You can also try using the (udf/iso) option in Nero, mentioned in this thread, to burn the ISO if it doesn't work in CDGENPS2.
i'm pretty sure that method won't work, ps2dragon... i think it's been tried before.
unfortunately, i just tried for 3 hours and 7 dvd coasters following a guide to make one myself using sony cd/dvdgen, and tested it with HDLoader and cogswap. the combo (with ulaunchelf) booted from HDLoader but not from cogswap, the standalone wouldn't boot at all either way. so, until i can make a dvd image that will definately boot on a modded console, just like any other game, i can't really put a dvd image on the site.
i'd really appreciate some help or a quick explanation, from someone who'se already done it, of how to make the dvd image, so that i can then make a tutorial and put the image onto the website for everyone. i'll be sure to give credit to whoever helps me with this. PM or email to juddman at gmail.com
edit: rodogg, if possible, could you email me an ISO (zip it please) of the working copy you got from your friend?
this is the one i made that worked with HDLoader (still has this issue)
EDIT: download link removed. it didn't even boot in the emulator whereas a previous attempt did.
im not sure whether cogswap might do something that messes up homebrew loading. the only way to know is for someone with a modchip or swap magic to burn it and test it. any takers?
overall i must say, the exploit is much easier than using a slide card. if you have an old fat PS2, rodogg, i suggest you try it.
this is the one i made that worked with HDLoader (still has this issue).
I'm not sure if I understood your problem correctly, but to me it looks as if you're trying to use a program launched by HDL to launch another instance of HDL, which is doomed to failure. The second instance will start, but will have lost all ability to launch any installed ISOs, whether those are homebrews or commercial games. All attempts to launch anything from such a 'second instance' of HDLoader (or HDAdvance) will always end in BSOD.
Another issue that some people have with uLE when used with HDL, is that they can't access the virtual CD from which uLE was launched. This is easily fixed by turning off IOP reset in the LAUNCHELF.CNF stored on that CD image, or if none is stored there, the one stored in mc0:/SYS-CONF/. A smarter variant of this approach is to edit the LAUNCHELF.CNF to be used on the CD image so as to both turn off the IOP reset, and to switch CNF folder to somewhere else, by editing it to contain two lines like the following:
Init_Reset_IOP = 0
CNF_Path = mc0:/YOUR_CD_CNF/
That will allow uLE to continue accessing the virtual CD image after booting, while also giving it the ability to reload/save CNF in mc0:/YOUR_CD_CNF/, so that you can reload/save pathpad setups and other settings without affecting your normal default CNF file in mc0:/SYS-CONF/ (where you normally need IOP reset to be ON).
Edit: Naturally you will have to create the folder mentioned above before saving anything to it, as uLE never creates any folders without being told to do so by the user.
thanks, dlanor. what they're trying to do in that thread is go HDLoader -> uLaunchELF -> SMS, or better yet, HDLoader -> SMS.
thanks for the config tip. I will put in some work on sorting out these cd images. i'm trying to make a DVD image too, with very little luck so far, and don't have any means of booting my own CD images to test them (other than HDLoader), so i've started playing with emulators.
JuddMan, what is your email address?.........................never mind. for all of who wish to have a dvd version of the sms, here is the .rar version. i hope you all enjoy it.
now i would like to know if anyone can tell me how it is created?
