Connect Laptop to slimPS2

I've already got IPCONFIG.DAT set up, exactly as above, except that PS2 IP address is 192.168.0.2
I doubt that small difference will have any affect?

So the SMS.smb & IPCONFIG.DAT both seem to be set up correctly... yet I still cannot access my laptop via SMS

No. You are free to choose any address that fits the subnet. The address I stated of 192.168.0.10 just happens to be the default that most PS2 homebrews would use if no config file is found.

Have you ever used the networking hardware of that PS2 for anything, ever ?

If not, then it may be that you need to perform the Sony-style network port initialization once, before you can use the LAN port for homebrew stuff. Every Sony PS2 network adaptor, as well as every slim PS2, includes a "Network Access Disc" that should be used to set up the hardware. If the LAN port of your PS2 has never been used before, this may be what it needs to start working.

Aha, that could be exactly it. The answer is no I haven't, & my slim PS2 never came with one. I had to send off a card to get it, but it never got delivered... luckily, I have a friend who has one!

Do u have Windows 7 installed on laptop?
SMS has problems with Windows 7 share.

(it didnt helped me, i cant watch media using SMS from Windows 7 share, no matter what i tried, with radhostclient i can see the shared files, but SMS freezes when i try to play any media file)

I've got XP installed

Ok, I've got a ps2 network access disc + apart from the traceroute, everything else is configured and working from the disc.

I've also got RadHostClient running + working well on uLE...

But still, I cannot get SMS to work via network!
I've set up folder sharing and everything but it just won't work?

That is very odd, as you should have it working by now.

Are you sure that you have enabled network usage and protocol choice properly in the SMS device settings menu ?

Also, since you now have HOST protocol working with uLE, you could try that with SMS as well. And to switch between HOST and SMB protocol in SMS you may need to first disable its networking, save settings and restart, so you can choose protocol before you activate the networking.
