I read the manual about creating a dummy DVD with AVIs on it for PS2s with out a modchip, but what about PS2's that are modded?

    Warning

Don't do this if you have a modchip. You don't need to, and this actually prevents PS2's with some modchips from reading the DVD while the chip is turned on. Modchip users can just burn a normal Data DVD.

I've tried my regular burned joilet data DVD-r's with AVIs but SMS doesn't recognize it as a valid media.

Are there any tips for those of us who have mod chips?

Ok nevermind, I'm stupid. I used the exploit to boot SMS from the MC, and to do so I need to "disable" the modchip. So when I swap the CD out and DVD in, it doesn't recognize it. doh

hmm,... this may be what's been causing my problem with SMS & Reality not detecting my dvd-r discs as well. So did you manage to get it to work - as I also load the elfs from MC using the PS1 exploit, and I have to boot up my PS2 (with DuoChipSE) in PS1 mode. You're not saying to disable the modchip are you?

That's the exact chip that I have in mine. I don't think you can get it to work with the exploit. What I ended up doing was just burning the SMS CD iso in another thread. But then I have to swap discs around. I guess it's not that big a deal seeing as you'd have to pop out the exploit trigger CD to put in your DVD-r.

alternatively, I just throw the movies onto a USB drive.

Yeah,... that's how I had managed to get the Reality player working before - just burn it onto a disc.

But you'd think that if you booted up the PS2 in PS1 mode and load the exploit, that it'd be okay to swap discs once SMS is loaded.

I haven't had much of a chance to mess around with getting SMS working with my dvd-rs, but one of these nights I'll sit down and try it again.

you could make the movie dvd's with the dummy movie like in the manual and turn off your modchip and boot from exploit. if modchip is off the dvd-video trick should work as the modchip is no longer trying to tell the PS2 that its a PS2 game when it's not.

i believe this is why you cant load up DVDs or PS2 discs in PS1 mode... the modchip is telling the PS2 it's a PS1 cd and it cant read it like that.

u dont need swap trick this way... just eject the PS1 cd then put in movie disc and play.

or... make a ps2 disc with SMS on it...and then use your modchip in PS2 mode... you should be able to change it for a normal disc then.

Yeah,... I was thinking of just burning a dvd-r with SMS on it. But I would ideally like to run it from the MC.

I've already got a ton of dvd-rs full of avi's, so re-burning them as dvd discs isn't really an option.
