I have a PS2 Fat with DMS3, 80Gb hard drive and running SMS version 1.7 I am using Execftp to transfer divx/Avi movies to drive I want ot tranfser movies direct to drive using a USB caddie then reinstall into PS2 once finished as ftp is hopeless what type of filesystem does HDD use and are there any programs out there that will allow you access to dump movies onto it.

Filesystem is PFS, but the only PC utility that writes to it is too buggy to recommend. Some projects are in the works, but as far as I know, you are currently out of luck. The fastest way to dump is using the PS2 optical drive, if you don't mind the wear (and burning disks). Also, Host transfers over the network are faster than FTP (use uLaunchELF or more recent SMS versions).

I was trying to use PS2 RFS file explorer but it is really buggy you transfer a avi file or two and plug the hard drive in and they work then you go to transfer some more using usb caddie and it seems to corrupt the whole hard drive

Hmmm... I use a USB Thumbdrive or Hard Drive to copy movies to my PS2's internal disk. This is so slow, though... maybe 1GB per hour? Maybe using a CD-R or -RW would be faster, I know... but actually I just play most of my movies from an external USB hard drive anyway (except some Simpsons episodes for emergency purposes).

If you're in the command-line try PFS shell. It can even do it via hdl_dump server and there is no need to un-plug your HDD.

Why not burn them to DVD and transfer using UlaunchELF?

Maybe he is trying to save laser life?

Why not buy a USB to IDE adapter and use that to move the files?

Another good option is to use uLaunchelf's built in "host" function. You can run a client on the PC side (ps2client or RadHostClient) and transfer them across your network. I get around 600-700kb/s using this method.
