Is AC3 Passthrough "Proper" ?

I'm gonna buy a Dolby Decoder box solely for use with my PS2 for Pro Logic II in games and AC3 from movies in SMS.
Pro Logic II should'nt have any problems as its um "Professionally" done by multi-national game companies.
But how is the AC3 passthrough implementation in SMS ? How well does it stick to the specification etc ? Are there any quirks where it wont work with some decoders or something like that ?
Because if it works fine for everyone then I think I'll buy a decoder.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but it works for me. I use my PS2 and PC with a Logitech Z-5450.

Likewise here. I use the AC3 passthrough with an Onkyo 5.1 receiver and it works just fine.
Really, I can't really see where there would be any weirdness unless SMS is demuxing the AC3 stream wrong. I mean, the whole idea with AC3 passthrough is that it just dumps the stream as-is to the digital out, right?

Well it seems to be working fine so I think I'll go out and get myself a receiver.

I'm using SMS player with my SONY STR-DE698 Reciever through PS2's optical out for long time. It works perfect. Don't hesitate to buy a dolby decoder.
