[RELEASE] ps2clmon

Hey all,
I recently installed SMS on my PS2, but since I have Win7 I couldn't use SMB shares.
However, all the tools I tried to keep either ps2client or radhost running wouldn't work properly or timeout at moments they shouldn't. So I coded up my own utility: ps2clmon.

It can also be used for other purposes, since you can configure it to use any device (hostname that responds to ping) and application, with arguments.

For those of you that still use SMS and might find this useful I decided to release it. More info & download here on my blog:

Interesting !

Though written with potential for other uses too, an immediate use for your ps2clmon would clearly be as a direct replacement for the old PS2ClientLoader, as far as controlling PS2Client.exe (though probably without a sharelist editor).

I've just downloaded it, and will try it out to see how it compares with the 'competition'... :)

I've now made some initial tests of ps2clmon, and it seems to work quite well with uLE as the HOST server, though the amount of testing made so far is of course quite limited.

Even so, ps2clmon is clearly a valid alternative to PS2ClientLoader, though I guess some users will hold its lack of a non-CLI GUI against it.

So far this works very well. My only problem so far has been trying to mount VMCs over SMB in ULE. I get the message "'Mount vmc0:' for "path" Result=-3" I have no idea what that means though.

That is impossible since SMB is not yet really implemented for uLE.

All it has is an experimental SMB login test routine, inside the "Debug Info" menu, to test that the SMB module 'borrowed' from OPL allows uLE to make a login connection to the SMB server of a PC. But while this does work already, there are NO real SMB file transfer routines at this stage. So the FileBrowser still contains no trace at all of SMB usage.

As yet the "host:" device using HOST protocol is the only real networking available to uLE.

I have no idea what "path" you are referring to here.
It couldn't possibly be an SMB path, since such do not exist in the FileBrowser.

If "path" really was a VMC file in a "host:" folder, then you were lucky it failed...

When using "host:" to mount VMC files over network one common result for me has been that the mounting succeeds, only to result in hopelessly corrupted VMC files after some write operations, thus causing loss of any gamesaves those VMC files may have contained.

Apparently you have not seen my warnings against trying to mount VMC files in uLE FileBrowser over LAN. (Warnings naturally motivated by those corruption results.)

For the present you should regard VMC mounting in uLE to be restricted to "hdd0:" and "mass:" (or possibly "mass1:", "mass2:" etc).

Sorry for going off-topic in this reply, but since the subject raised by juggalomars involvess potential corruption of VMC files, I felt it necessary to clarify the situation.

To clarify it said the path to the VMC I was trying to mount and yes I've corrupted a few blank ones goofing around and seeing what I can and cannot do.

Correct sir. I haven't found much info on VMC so I've just been learning by playing with blanks ones.

Back to the subject at hand however, I was able to transfer a file from my pc to my USBHDD, connected to my ps2 of course, without corruption. I was unable to send it back though. Still, I wasn't able to do that with the other similar programs I tried today. I'm really liking ps2clmon. It's CLI, but still user friendly. :ups:

1 little question i still have tho , can it handle command line parameters like:

ps2clmon.exe /hide

if i then put that in my run registery i never need to think about just flip on pc and have a go :)

so any tool that allows the ps2 to send wake-on-lan packets ? ^^ (getting lazyer :p)

It can't process command line parameters, but that isn't necessary.
To make the program autohide, just enter:

set autohide true

in the console. The settings are saved automatically so it will autohide the next time it's started.

Just wanted to say thanks very much for this!
I thought my PS2 AVI streaming days were over since I finally got a Windows 7 PC.

I'll have to spend some more time trying later, but I can't get any folders to show up so far. I've got the network icon showing at the top bar of SMS, just no folders/files.

A couple questions:
Does having a 64 bit version of Windows 7 matter?
Is it a must to use password protection or anything like that, I have a very simple SMS.SMB file right now.

Nevermind, got it working.
Stupid me forgot to change it to ps2dev/host.
