very problmatic V12 w/ matrix infinity –
I bought a slim ps2 v12 with a matrix infinity preinstalled from a forum months ago. after falling asleep with it on for a day i encountered from laser problems and i also heard them slim ps2s are prone to laser problems. so i got one off of ebay for like 30 bucks, installed it, and everything worked fine... now for the last couple weeks, my ps2 would freeze on the matrix boot screen or turn black after it and it wouldnt boot to the ps2 logo....
and now, when i tried to play a backup copy of a dvd based game, i noticed a weird smell coming from the ps2. i dont know what the hell it was from, im guessing it was a diode upon reading other posts... anyway, my ps2 will still play original dvd based games*tested FFX* and also will play CD-R Backups*tested with firmware cd for my modchip* and will also play DVD-movies, BUT it will not play dvd-r games now... when i put in the disc, the browser will say DVD VIDEO and then when i try to boot, it will say unable to read disc, or if i reset the ps2 and dont go to the browser, it will go straight to the unable to read disc error....
it really ticked me up because the timing of this problem is terrible. i recently tried selling it on a forum (want to trade it for a normal big ps2 with a network adapter without a mod chip(or with, i dont care, im gonna use it for HD loader) and anyway, as soon as someone told me they were interested in trading me, my pstwo takes a crap on me.. so is there any fix for this short of buying another new laser? quite frankly, im fed up and will probably end up giving it away or throwing it away... (i already have 3 big version ps2s that are sitting around, all broken with disc read errors).....
any help would be great!
you may have to explain things a little in depth for me if i newb wont understand.. (i have never modded a system myself, i suck at soldering, but i have taken them apart, installed a laser like a previously said)..
it sounds more like a wire has come loose, if its still reading dvd movies and originals and not even attempting dvd-r then the laser diode should be ok.
if you can get it apart just check every wire on chip and board and make sure they are connected.
also do a search here for the v12 fixes and make sure yours has one
