Got a problem. Eject cable hooked up properly. When the top of the drive (with the magnet) is removed, tray works fine. When the top is in place, it acts like it is stuck (even with the top 1/2 of the ps2 case off). Nothing to get stuck against. Almost acts like the magnet is too strong, keeping the drive motor from lowering so the tray can eject. I tried another drive top but the same problem continues. Is it the drive motor that is at fault in that it is too weak to move downward from the drive top to allow the tray to eject? Appreciate comments. Thanks

I'm got several ps2 parts systems. How tough to replace the BA chip?

check the ribbon cable of the spindle motor i think that you have to search for the failure there if the ribbon is not connected well or one is damaged (look to the silver traces on the ribbon sometimes they roll up)

the spindle motor use several voltages and if one of the traces is not connected well the spindle motor does not have enough straignt to spin the disk up

i have seen this lots of time

on the question how difficult it is to replace a Bachip (still don't think it is broken on your machine) it is pretty easy if you have a Hot air equipment
i do a Bachip in only 1 or 2 minutes

but if you need to desolder and solder it with a solder iron it is a hell of a job

    grtz
