V4 Laser issues

Well picked up a used PS2 that "wasnt working" because ive never messed with a PS2 or PS1 and wanted to see what they are like.

Cleaned the Lense and cleaned out tons of dust inside the box and bam all better, watched it spin up and read a game and play a dvd.

Well now a day later after someone tried to show my the disc swapping trick it no longer reads disks..... (Thanks buddy)

Putting a disc in and powering it up gets a very quick very dim red flash from the laser and a small turn of the disc....well today me and a engineer here at work went over the internals, checking fuses and connectors and pot Ohms, all check out "fine"

Well again i am new to the PS2 but not electronic repair, I figure this is a V4 PS2 but some of the Motherboard diagrams are somewhat different than my board... any help would great, dont want to invest in a $50 laser unless i am sure.....

look on the board for the GH-00# number that is a better way of determing what version you have.
