As some of you already know my ps2 is a V14, now this v14 is one of the unlucky Australian ones with the 3170SPU (aka Wide Lens) laser unit, which I've heard is a piece of crap, I've noticed Divineo has the full PVR802w Optical blocks available and I'm tempted to order one, to keep on standby for when this 3170SPU unit dies.

What I'm wondering is, has anyone done this swap on a V14 from the 3170SPU block to the PVR802w block and does it work ok?

I've never swapped out a v14 laser but I did swap some v13's just to bee on the safe side. I can however say I didnt have problems with any of them.

Thanks for the info FS and Jenko, sounds like it should be ok, though I would love to hear if anyone has done the swap on a v14. I lack confidence in Sony's ability to maintain part compatibility across versions.

Hi cherry, it seems most of these lasers seem to be going good with sonys implented fix so not too many would have swapped them, so I suppose no news is good news

Yep, so far the V14 seems a solid unit, just I tend to keep consoles indefinently, so I would like a backup laser. I figured that because the full pvr802w optical blocks are inexpensive at the moment, it would be good to grab one.
