V12 spins discs with tray open
V12 spins discs with tray open –
I have a V12 that used to work fine with my modchip.
One day I started to have problems. No disc would spin anymore.
I have taken out the modchip, and have now the normal 'standard' ps2..
When I now insert a game or movie when the ps2 is off, and then press the on/reset button it works normally.
However when I open up the tray, the disc slows down a little, but never really stops.
It keeps on spinning really slow.
The other thing is; when I turn the ps2 on without any disc in it, and then insert a disc, it won't spin. I have to reset it for that.
So what can be wrong with this playstation 2?
Could something be damaged?
sounds like something is up with the microswitch on the small board that holds the power switch. And maybe the mechanical brake when you open the lid is missing the felt pad.
I tried the 2 switches, by pressing them manually.
And they are working. When the disc is playing, and I press them, it does slow down and stop the dvd movie.
So it might be the brake?
There is still some of that white felt pad on there, and it is going against the disc.
But shouldn't the disc stop after a while?
When I stop the disc manually, as in: "I help the brake"... And let go again, the disc starts spinning again.
The modchip I had installed before was the dms4 lite. It has been removed now.
The problem that I did have at the time is when I would connect 'Q', (that is the eject wire), the disc wouldn't spin, and the laser wouldn't move. Just by simply disconnecting that single wire from the modchip fixed that problem.
So could this have to do with that?
Did you check all the CD/DVD controller connections that you connected to on the motherboard there may be a minor/small short. Sometimes solder on the small pads can carry over to the surounding area and cause a problem. I assume your PS2 will still boot original disks right?
I have checked it for shorts, I didn't see any.
I'll buy a magnifying glass and check again, maybe I've missed something really small.
And yes, it does boot originals. I can boot all original games, and movies.
