hi, I have been searching around this forum and googling for a long time, but it havent reach any conclusion on lens fix for ps2 v9 :
    1. summOne fix = put 560ohm resistor OR
    2. Romeo fix = pin17 of LA6508 to 5V

Which one is the best / most efficient method to prevent the LA6508 chip and the Laser head from spoiling? Need to know it asap, cause I will be doing the soldering by today... Thanks for anyone who can help.

i got a v9 and asked the same question romeo mod is supposed to be the way to go. Get that or do that to your v9 and use god media like Tayo Yuden which can be purchased online. [When playing burned games] It'll save the laser wear and tear. You could also look into not using oyur laser as much when playing backups like playing them off of hard drive and using elfs to run certain programs you might need. i beleive supermediastore.com is the website to buy that dvd-r or dvd+r media from so uhhhh good luck?

ROMEO mod and the Summone fix do the same thing

with the romeo you change the power from 12 to 5 volt bij disconneting a pin
and solder it with a wire to a 5volt spot

The Summone fix just ad a resistor that does basicly the same the resitor
limited the power from 12 to 5 volt

Personally i use the summone because it is easier to remove when troubleshooting is needed ,

some HD7 don't like to work oke on 5 volt and need a bit more
i that occasion i put in a Potmeter on the place of the resitor and search for the best value

    With regards

At the end I decided to go for Romeo fix, the reason is by using means of summ0ne fix, its reduce some current because that resistor is connected parallel to the two 303 component, as a result current are divided.

Special thanks to kioshi, pegz, and mabcom for sharing thoughts. My confusion ends here.

is this really nesecary? I have sent my spare matrix chip to a friend of mine with a V-9. he has a messiah 2 chip right now, and he's gonna replace it with the matrix.

I dunno if he has the romeo fix, but the messiah2 was proffesionally installed.

my question, does he really need it ?

Pin17 on LA6508 is originally fed 12V, providing higher voltage for laser output, booting original DVD doesnt really make a big difference, but if you use DVD backup, the voltage will be higher than usual, even worst if you use bad/scratch/dirty media, the ripple are abnormal resulting burning in LA6508 and laser coil.
Do as you see fit, but most people would recommend you to do Romeo fix.

    It is REALLY NEEDED

i have done hundreds scph50004 in the old days the messiah2 was the top one modchip in that time
and i can say that I still see some comming to me after 1 or 1,5 year of playing with a dead LACHIP because i had not used anny fix
(no fix was avaible by the way)
it was in that time one big mistery what happend to te ps2's
i had also a lot of communication with Charlie ps2 in the psxforum about it
and lots people thought it was a corrupt eeprom or a extra added security from sony,

it ended up that sony did spare some cents on there parts and decided to put in crappy parts (the LA6508R)
when that was discovered lots of invention came out that day like extra cooling pads etc
but the Romeofix did the job

same happend with the first badge of pstwo's
i was one of the first who modded them and also was one of the first who saw a defective (burned laser) also all pstwo's who i did in the first period with out a fix did return to me with no exeptions
when there is a big issue happening in a particular serie don't think that you get spared and be sure your day will come to

moral of this story no fix it will DIE !!!!

What cause burnt LA/ focus coils is MECHACON crashes ....

What cause MECHACON crashes is bad media or modchips hooked on the CD/DVD controller (mechacon). Oh yeah we have to live with it lol

The fix protect your laser because if the crash happens it will not burn the lens in 2-3 seconds like it happen at 12v ... It will take more time to damage it and you have enough time to reset or turn off the console.
