    hi guys

i have little problem...urmele had this explained to a user in this forum about the problem....it was:

normally the laser drives into his end position, when the micro swich on it
is pressed (check this out, maybe you've got the wrong laser unit), than it drives a little bit forward to the first boot-data position of the
cd/dvd. After that, the laser diode is powered on and the sens is goin up and down to find the right position, during that the motor starts spinning two short times (as far as i remember, he does this regardless of if there is a cd/dvd inserted or not).
analyse the problem step by step.

And if it really is the end-switch, you also can modify the laser unit by yourself,
so that the switch is being triggered in the right moment.

What does urmele means by modifying the lens...i have this problem..

    hi,
i assume you have your old laser at hand?
if so, mount it and take a good look, when the switch is triggered (end-point).
check also the location, where the switch hits the metal housing of your
    laser.
i too had these problems in the past, when i switched my laser, but in my case
was it only a cutout in the metal housing of the new laser (the switch goes
directly through it, it doesn't get pressed).
the only thing which i have done was to close the cut out with some glue and plastic stuff, so the microswitch was pressed as usually, when the laser reached
    the end point.
    you should do the same.
even if it isn't 100% the same, it still works fine (it's not like a CNC machine).

let me know if it works for you.

the old descrition from me, which you have posted first, is a descrition
how it normally works when the laser starts moving withot a CD/DVD in the
drive (if your laser unit acts that way, everything seemed to be ok with it).

if you have a bad "laser unit" and replaced it with a laser unit from a wrong
model, then you should modify the metal housing of the new laser unit, so
the end-switch gets triggered at the same point as with the old laser (some
    models are compatible after this).

if you replace the whole CD/DVD drive somehow, than there is no need to
do this, because in that case you also replaced the microswitch (end-switch)
    with it.

please clarify your problem a little bit better somehow, so i might be able
    to understand it.

    Okey Urmele Here it goes

i Have 2 Playstation 2's, 1 is professionally modded with matrix infinity..second one was in his box in my room...my modded ps2 is after 3 months just like u told in quote .. the lens is goin up and down to find the right position, during that the motor starts spinning two short times ......and it stops ..after 40 seconds (Backup or original game inside (DVD)) he boots the game and its normal functioning again....with cd its almost 2 minutes going up and down constantly for 2 minutes ...and after that it boots normal...again..so i thought i relace the whole dvdrom with laser from the new ps 2 i had.. connect all the fuses and everything same as before nothing changed..when i put a dvd the lens is goin up and down, during that the motor starts spinning two short times...and after 40 seconds game boots..and when i put cd proces is longer 2 minutes is the lens going up and down..after thet game boots...

i dont understand... thats the problem..its a new ps 2..

so, try to mount the old cd/dvd unit into your new unmoded ps2.
if it works fine, you probably have a serious problem with your
moded ps2. maybe some problem with the chip installation, try to update your
    chip with the latest firmware.
if you still have waranty on the moded one, bring it back to the moder (and
don't tell him, that you've fidling around with it).

what ps2 models are we talking about?

urmele indeed i tryed with the new ps2 (unmodded), there is nothing wrong with the dvdrom (old)or witj the new dvdrom ....its working on new ps2 ...i guessing the soldering isnt correct or maybe the position X and Y of the dvd rom is not right because of chip...and i use the newest firmware... but still the same...

    urmele thank u man ...
