Turning PS2 on from controller

I'm very jealous of all those XBox360 owners who can turn their console on from the couch using the controller. Has anyone ever thought about hacking this feature into the PS2? I don't know how complicated the PS2 controller interface is, but it should be possible with a simple microcontroller that pulls up the power switch signal for a moment when e.g. start and select are pressed on the controller. Any thoughts? Info on the PS2 controller interface is also welcome.

yup, xbox origional owners can do the same with a simple snip'n clip as well.
