I'm not searching for a way to fix it because it's not a bug deal and I can "fix" it really easy.I'm just curious what could be the reason for this problem.

When I turn on my PS2 and start a game, both the left and the right analogs are not centered and in this way on sensitive games about the analogs the left analog is moving the character really slow and the right is moving the camera really slow. And to fix that I just have to spin both analogs(after that they are centered and that problem don't appear till I restart my PS2 and start another game)

this happens to one of my controllers sometimes. Its either dust and animal hair (if you have pets) getting into the mechanism or friction just gradually wearing the bearings down.

after that they are centered and that problem don't appear till I restart my PS2 and start another game
although that doesn't tie up with my theory. maybe I'm wrong.

It's kinda strange to be that because it's happening every time and it's "fixed" with the same method.

A "fix" that is on the controller manual is:

Do circular movements on both sticks at the same time but in opposite directions.

for example, spin the left stick clockwise while you spin the right stick counter-clockwise. Need to do this every time you power on the PS2 or connect the pad. The microcontroller on the pad will detect that particular movement and will then re-adjust the center of the pad.

So it's known problem and this is the fix(what I do without knowing that this is the actual fix)

As asbo pointed out, it's the wear out of the sensor pots on the sticks mechanics. The procedure I described is a "temporary fix" for the issue.

Honestly it's not worth the trouble fixing as the only real solution is replacing the sticks mechanisms. Not worth the trouble because one can still buy original Dual Shock pads nowadays.

whenever i have this problem I just unplug my DS2 make sure the analog sticks are sentered and then plug in the DS2, you dont need to reboot the PS2 but just the DS2. I had this problem a lot with GT4 and the car would pull to right or left. Just reboothe DS2 by unplugging and plugging back in with those analog sticks in the center, not to the side that is worn out. Another thing I do to my analog sticks is put a bit of lithium grease on the rings inside it. But if you don't know how to take it apart than don't do it until you watch at least 3 different youtube videos about it. you can eaasily break your DS2 (ripping ribbons ect)

I've assemble and disassemble PS1 analog/digital and PS2 controllers at least 50 times(including repairing the cable and soldering)

I don't need to unplug=>plug the DS2,I just have to spin both analogs.

PS.Sometimes for some unknown reason the controller is not working at all and I have to unplug=>plug it or do the same but first turn off the PS2.

Yeah, BradicaL. Spin the analogs cause the controller to auto-adjust so no need to disconnect it from the console. In a nutshell is what I said earlier.

I have faced analog stick problem on many occasions. This happens for unknown reasons, couldn't figure out why its responding in this manner, its gets better after some spins in opposite direction & sometime i have to get it fixed.
