    Hi there,

I recently received my MemoryCard with FMCB on it and wanted to test it with LotR: Return of the King. Starting the game was fine, no problem at all. But I couldn't skip the intro by pressing Start or Select or whatever, so I had to watch it... (felt like watching the whole trilogy). When it finally went ingame (somehow without menu) it said that I should plug in a gamepad. He didn't recognize my non-original one, that, beside of the missing Sony label, looks the same as an original and always worked fine.
I also have an original gamepad, but since a longer period of not being used it doesn't work anymore. I can plug it in, the "Analog" LED lights up but the controller always sends "Up" and "Down" controls and signals like pressing "X" are not transfered. BUT LotR accepts the controller, although I can't play with it...
Does anyone have an idea of what went wrong here?!
I think it doesn't have to do with FMCB, because Buzz! works fine and the non-original controller works fine in the PS2 menu.

How did your start that game? Through ESR? Try re-ripping your game again?
It's really odd that your controller isn't working properly...

If all your other games can work with it, then it's probably just that game being a bad rip.

    Yeah, it runs through ESR

I'll wait for new DVD-R's to test it again

Just wondering what kind of software problem (caused by a ripping defect) would cause one of my controllers not to be recognized?!

What is your console's model? What brands of DVD-Rs are you using? Avoid cheap DVD-Rs to reduce the possibility of laser wear and other malfunctions.

    Try Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD-Rs.

It might have been the controller initialization/control routines of the game being damaged (And possibly much more serious than just that).

Anyway, even 1% of incorrect data being written as part of the game into the disc usually results in erratic behavior/crashes (The PS2 is a computer after all... "DOES NOT COMPUTE" ).

Some games only accept controllers with a dual-shock funktion.
You could try that, but i guess you just have a bad coppy.

    It's a SCPH-70004 and I'm already using Verbatim DVD-R.

    Both gamepads are dual-shock.

btw: The eBay-seller replied on my question and told me the controllers actually have the Sony-label on it, but it's not original. (He said I shouldn't worry, all his items are brand new and high quality)

    A really honest seller! ^

The controller is being detected as Playstation controller, not Playstation 2 controller. It's the typical case of innards not matching the outside.

I would ask for a replacement if I were you.
