    Hi guys,
It my first post here, so be easy on me. I've searched the net for the past couple of weeks on loading my games off my phat ps2 HD. I have an older matrix chip that allows me to boot directly from a drive. I've read that some of the loading times are less than desirable and was wondering if there was a mod that allowed a faster transfer rate to the drive itself. Is there a way to solder in a clipped sata cable directly to the board or does the problems stem from the software itself? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

    Hi.

I have an older matrix chip that allows me to boot directly from a drive. I've read that some of the loading times are less than desirable and was wondering if there was a mod that allowed a faster transfer rate to the drive itself.
Less than desirable? You mean the performance that you might get when you load games off a FAT PS2's internal HDD with a game loader like HDLoader (Now obsolete) or OPL?

    That's... impossible!
The HDD interface can transfer data way faster than the PS2's CD/DVD drive can.

Anyways, there isn't such a mod because the hardware of the FAT Playstation 2's Network Adaptor only includes an IDE disk interface (Not designed for SATA).

not posible to solder it down ...but there are sata to ide adapters and u can use that
im not sure is it compatibe to use one of them 7200rpm drives cuz that will decreast the loading a lot
google the ps2 hdd compatibility lists and check

Thanks guys. I must have misunderstood the information I was reading on the load times and the software I they were using.

It seems that there should be a way to replace that ide connection or bypass it?

If you meant to replace the IDE interface with a faster one like SATA, no.

Anyways, you'll probably not want a too fast interface either - some games do break if data is being read too fast.

Therefore, game loaders that use the HDD like HDLoader and OPL have a compatibility mode that causes data to be read slower.

That makes sense, in which it wouldn't be able to process the information correctly at that high speed. I was just looking to speed up the original loading times. I'll look for an sata/ide adapter and go with that method. Thanks for the help guys, you rule!

Quite possibly you were reading reports on HDD usage with slim PSTwo which normally implies use of external HDDs connected by USB interface.

That gives horrible load times and stuttering games due to the slow USB 1.1 interface of all PS2/PSTwo consoles.

    Best regards: dlanor
