Got a used slim PS2 for cheap. Was told that it works and as the fool that I am, simply took it home.

So here's the problem. When I insert a disk, it'll recognize as a PS2 Game disk. But when I press X to run the disk, screen goes dark then return to menu. What's the problem? Can I fix it? I'm looking forward to get this PSTwo modded. Still possible or is this a dead one?

    Thanks.

Is the game a copy/backup? Does it have a chip?

The PSTwo is not modded. I tried it with two original games, GT3 and Fight Night 2004.

Hmm, turns out it only reads CDs and not DVDs. Anything I can do to remedy this?

Replace laser. It's about $25 from Divineo.
