Ok, so I have a V14 Slim PS2. What happens from time to time is that I insert a disc and close the cover. But nothing happens. I then open the cover, remove the disc, and find that the laser has moved in too close to the disc spindle. i.e. the laser is right beside the disc spindle and the laser ribbon is "coiled" or not flat against the bottom as it should be. The laser does not move again after closing the cover.

When I press the reset button nothing happens. I have to manually unplug the AC adapter and plug it back in to fix the problem. This isn't a serious problem but is there anyway to stop this from happening?

That problem is the MECH-CRASH and it´s happen mostly when you don´t put the consolle in off position before you change the disc. And sometimes when the disc is of low quality or scratched.Be glad that´s it´s a v14 cause when that happened in the early v12 the laser go a puff!
