SCPH39003 - Is this a dead laser or a fuse?
SCPH39003 - Is this a dead laser or a fuse? –
PS2 is not reading any disks. Goes straight to the browser and does not detect that a disk is inserted.
After opening it up I found that the disk is only spinning 1/2 a rev then stopping. The laser is moving ok and lights up red upon reset.
Have adjusted laser height and angle with no effect.
I can sometimes get the disk to spin if I leave the top off the drive then replace it once the disk is spinning, however it doesn't seem to make any reading noises, spins for a little while then get "disk read error" from the broswer.
Laser appears to be 400R from the pics on the internet.
As a side note I guess I should mention that this PS2 has been used for a while with the drive tray ejected (long story regarding hdloader not working when the tray is closed).
Would be grateful if someone could advise on the following questions:
1. Does this sound like a laser fault or fuse?
2. If laser, which models can I replace the 400R with (using lenschanger if required) and do I need a full laser or is a particular component likely the cause?
3. If fuse is suspected any ideas which ones to check (any links to good guides on fuse locations would be great)
4. I'm wondering whether leaving the tray open all the time could have caused this. Is it possible?
