SCPH-77004 reads some PS2/DVD-games perfectly, some not all –
I have a weird problem with my SCPH-77004.
First a disclaimer: I just replaced a broken "closed-lid"-detector (the one on the mo-bo) with a tiny wire. I suck at soldering but made no appearent mistakes I think I noticed this problem after I did this surgery, but as you see, some games still works and when I tested the machine before I started working with it, I might have used the games that still works. So basically I have no idea when the problem started occurring. Still, even if I did cause it I would like to hear if anyone have had a similar issue to save me some time on troubleshooting
The problem: Some games (PS2, DVD, original) doesn't work at all. The laser homes, glows, focuses, then the disk spins rather slowly at varying speeds for about 20 seconds and while the laser glows but does not move in any way. Then it gives up and Browser says "The disc could not be read." Strangely, other games (also PS2, DVD, original) starts instantly just like on a "healthy" machine.
It's fairly concistent, the games that works seems to start instantly every time, the games that doesn't work usually don't work (although for example, out of maybe 10 attempts, I got one of the not working games to work).
It doesn't seem to be related to the condition of the games, I've tried the games in several machines before and strangely, one of the games that doesn't work is in excellent condition and is one that even the most tired and broken of old v3 lasers are still able to read when many other games fail.
Any ideas or experience with this issue is appreciated!
It was the laser... Replaced the PVR-802W and the problem is gone.
