Ribbon to Power/Eject buttons.

OK, I was messing with my friend's US/NTSC V4 PS2, and I accidentally poked a hole in the ribbon that runs from the motherboard to the Power and Eject buttons. And the power lights are not coming on. There is no doubt about it that the ribbon is messed up. But this is the concerning part, the PS2 will not read any games, it is will get to the "PlayStation 2" screen, then when it is off, it grinds really badly and I am forced to turn it off. I was wandering if the ribbon could have caused this problem or what else I should check.
This system was not modified in anyway. It was just taken apart so I could compare the laser to mine because mine was not properly working.
Also, where is a good shop to buy one of these cables?

I picked up one of these on Ebay for $9 CAD shipped, they are all over, try there.
