I know this is slightly old, but what else has come of this little experiment? I've considered replacing my V7 fan with something a little bit more quiet, but at the same time, I feel the need to jam a 80mm 5200 rpm fan in there, just because no one else would dare to. Side note, where would I take the 12V power from, should I decide to hack up my case and stick a 80mm in there? I have 3 spares around here, and it seems like something to keep me amused for a couple hours. I would either bypass fan control completely, wiring 12V straight to the fan, or patch in a fan controller I have (its a zalman, came with a gpu fan/heatsink I don't use) which can control the fan speeds manually by turning a knob (rheostat...sp?). If I decide to I'll post up pics of how it ended up, gonna go size some things up, first.
