Hey folks, I have a problem that I need some advice from the ps2scene nation. Like the topic says I have a v7 PS2 and I am having problem with the laser. The problem is that I'm not getting the Disc Read Error. But my laser will start and try to read the disc while it spins 3 - 5 times before stopping. Then approximately 25 - 30 seconds later the disc will start to spin and the laser will read the game disc allowing me to play the game. But on the other hand my PS2 will on read burnt copies of games and movies, not originals. I truly need some help to avoid me having to spend $60 to send it to a professional and get this done. Thanks in advance to anyone with any advice posted in the the thread.

Add-On: Since the last time I posted this my PS2 won't play a damn thing on it now. Instead of loading up the game after 30 seconds of being on, the disc will now spin very very fast and doesn't load at all. Any help please, i really don't wanna result to buying another PS2, especially not a slim one since my hard drive will not work unless i get some serious modifications done to it.

your ps2 most likely is having the laser problem either weak laser diode or dirty lens especially the one under the focus/tracking lens. you might need experience to have it cleaned as it's easy to get the coil strings deformed. if the cleaning would solve the problem you are lucky otherwise you need a new laser which is costly these days. for $60 , you better buy a refurbished lens and replace it by yourself.

Seems like it's what wmb88 just said. Either you have blown tracking coils or weak laser diode. Since it did stop reading everything it really does look like the tracking coils are blown. Avoid putting discs in it as it is now because it can lead into a blown BA5815 and a ugly black screen.
