I recently opened my PS2 to fix my Crystal Chip 2.0 since two wires had come loose. I soldered them and closed the PS2 and tested it then when I ran the PS2, I heard a loud noise inside of the drive so I opened the disc case and saw that the disc was moving very fast as though the laser thought that it was a CD and not a DVD.

I checked all the ribbons to make sure that nothing had popped out of place and they were all alright.

I disabled my Crystal Chip to see if it was the cause and found out that it wasn't.

What should I do? I'm too poor to buy another PS2

you should be able to fnd a drive assembly for that ps2 a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a ps2.

What's a drive assembly? Also, how do I know for sure that the drive motor is broken and that I didn't fry something on my mainboard because one of the wires was SX and SX is right under the laser:

look for any burnt component like a fuse, resistor, or capacitor. use a multimeter if need be. but if any thing is fried, it would be the BA or LA chip and I don't know how to test those if it's even possible.

Edit - also, if you are unsure of yourself tinkering on the guts of a ps2, I suggest locating a professional.

I'm pretty sure I did fry something on that board

    The laser was perfect.

Okay, I think I found what's wrong with it.

The entire SX component got de-soldered!!

Can I fix it or should I prepare the grave?
