PS2 V10 Laser Rattling
PS2 V10 Laser Rattling –
My Laser stopped working after I tried turning it on upside down, after some tuning with the white knobs I finally got it working but now it rattles when the PS2 first starts up and when im putting it into standby. The big rattling sound was a mystery at first but after opening the whole thing up and taking a look it seems like the laser itself is rattling (the part that moves around with the actual red laser on it). Does anyone know the cause of this?
EDIT: actually upon further inspection I think the motor that turns the screw thing to move the laser is trying to turn too far. The laser moves up as close to the center as possible and it start making the rattling sound. If I push back the laser the rattling sound goes away as it begins to move towards the center again, but as soon as it reaches it's limit everything starts shaking/rattling again.

I kept tinkering with the laser and now somehow it works fine... boots CD's, DVD's, DVD-R's, CD-R's, everything that I tested. Weird, if someone could shed some light to whats happening I'd still appreciate it
the rattling is the worm gear still turning once the laser has reached the end, the metal arm coming off the laser and sitting on top of the worm gear has 2 teeth underneath and they would have been grinding on the worm gear.
number of reasons
(1)that arm might need bending down just a little to make better contact
(2) the teeth could be worn out
(3) the switch at the end to stop the gear could be faulty (unlikely)
(4) cable not connected properly
plus many more reasons which I am sure people will say
Hey if it aint broke dont fix it
in other words if its working now dont worry until it breaks again LOL
haha thanks for the response, I think I was bending the arm down all the way to see if it would still make the sound and then I guess that's how I made better contact and it stopped. Well I'm glad everything is good now! Until it gets broken again I suppose.
