PS2 Slim won't read discs, laser changed. Nobody knows the answer..
My problem wasn't solved in another forum. Hope you can help.
I have a PS2 Slim scph 770044 version 15. It worked for two years until it stopped reading discs. I then proceeded to change the laser, took off the anti static point and installed it. Now the games will play, but they stutter and skip. They are also extremely slow, unplayable and sometimes it gives me the unable to read disc text. Cleaning the lens does nothing obviously. It's an original ps2, no mods.
Before I changed the laser, the system stopped spinning the disc and started to spin it again back and forth. Spinned it for 5 seconds, stopped, started again, stopped. Now with the new laser the spinning is continuous, but it still won't work. I don't think this is due to the spindle motor since it now spins the discs correctly?
I have noticed that if I wiggle, shake or move the ps2 in my hands while the game loads and the disc spins, the game WILL load and proceed. What can be the cause for this? Basically I believe I could play the ps2 if someone was there wiggling it but I guess that's not an option...Why does it work when shaking the system?
What else is there left to try to make it work?
