Hi there guys, handy forum youve got going here, this is my first post so i hope you can help me.

I recently purchased a slim ps2 with the matrix infinity chip installed, it has apparently had the laser fix implemented as well (im not quite sure what this fix intails and would be interested if someone could explain) anyhow, all was well the unit was working fine.

Then i was loading a backed up version of god of war which required a dual layer disc to get all the info on, it was a good quality media and i have played the backup previously with no problems, As it was loading the playstation crashed and the screen went black, i couldnt turn the unit off even after the disc was removed so i was forced to pull the power out of the back.

When i turned the unit back on it could no longer read any discs, ive tried dvd, backups, origionals, music cd's but no luck, you can hear the laser spinning up and a clicking sound as if its trying to find the start of the disc but cant.

You can still access the ps2 dashboard fine and when you try to browse the media it trys to see it and then come up with the message cant read media. or no data

I cant imagine its a dirty laser or a problem with gears as it was working fine untill the crash.

Maybe ive blown the laser? maybe its worse has anyone got any advise for me before i rip out the laser unit and replace it.

I would be eternally gratfull for any advise

Seems your laser is blown. There are several fixes available. Go for summ0ne or comsoft!

looking at photos of laser fix pics on your site, i presume the fix is soldered to the main board, do you think i can just swap out the laser unit if the fix still apears to be working and not shorted out. Or shall i resolder the Summone fix in place as well to be sure. Could it maybe have been me pulling the power thats shorted the laser out and not laser fix malfunctioning or not working properly.

Has your ps2 got the pvr802 lens or the other type laser SPU 3170 which is wider? Also I personally haven't seen a pvr802 die with summ0ne fix applied. It does definately sound as though the lens is cooked. It might be worth your while ( if you can), to open the ps2 and take a picture of the installation. That way you will get a more direct diagnosis.

excellent, then thats what i'll do.

The question is..... i am a bit of a noob but know my way round a pcb, should i buy the laser unit and the bit i need which will cost me about £30 and try to fix her myself, or should i send it away to a pro whos quoted me £55, if it is a laser burnout thats causing the problem. Obvioulsy when i get a photo up that question with be easier to answer, i dont even know what laser fix was applied yet (not a very good one i guess)

If you go here: www.divineo.cn you can get all the bits your looking for. As for a fix, just use the subzero or comsoft v4, I have used both without any problems at all.
