PS2 Slim HW issue Black Screen
Hi. I have a ps2 slim rev. GH-035-21 and it is giving me nothing but trouble.
it was once modded, but have removed mod for troubleshooting.
this one has quite a history, so i will to give as much relevant information as possible :)
I will first start with what it does and doesn't:
- with power cord inserted will give red light (standby)
- on power on will not give green led but will start (black screen). prbly reset ribbon cable is broken for not giving green light (looks a bit broken and when moving reset pcb on stdby will sometimes lose red light).
- when powered on, and lid sensors blocked the lens moves and tries to read, but disc is spinning too slow. disc stops after a while. lens seems fine.
- sometimes when trying to read will give some glitches on screen (fullscreen) in form of red+green color, but unsynchronized and only for under a second.
- can be reset/powered off using reset button.
- sometimes fan will start spinning (sometimes seems normal due to fan controller)
I will now give a overview of the events that lead to this:
the ps2 was fully working after i chipped it with crystal 2.0, also applied 1k resistor lens fix (not sure anymore if it was a bit more than 1k or if it would have been sufficient :) )
i lend it out and after a while it came back with firmware erased (i've read this is 'normal' for crystal). restored firmware and all was fine.
lend it out again, but came back after a month or so, not being able to play backups anymore. so i assumed it was the firmware thing again, but it wasn't as it wouldn't read the upgrade disc and also reset/disable chip didn't do anything. it had nothing to do with lens, because i was able to boot backups using a swap-magic disc i had laying around.
so i looked at the debug-light on the crystal chip, it would blink very briefly (<0.5s) on reset press and would then go off. a single blink on power would indicate correct bios wiring, but i was not so sure, because chip didn't respond to anything and also didn't show anything on screen. it would be hell of a coincidence if the firmware went corrupt and also cd/dvd wires came off at the same time!
so i assumed it was something else, and replaces gnd/3.3v wiring because they where rather thin (same as all other wiring) and replaced them for thicker wiring.
after replacing gnd/3.3v debug led indicated problem with bios-wiring (led wouldn't turn off). chip still didn't respond to anything.
so i decided to start over again and removed the crystal chip, but i left the 1k lens fix in.
because i was rather irritated for this all to take this long, i wasn't very careful when removing the wiring, so by accident broke off one side off ps14 and probably fired the component for sx point (ps1 scex point, capacitor).
after removing i tried turning it on, but it would only give black screen.
this was even worse, so i thought i should also remove 1k lens fix just to make sure.
removed the fix carefully :)
i also replaced ps14 (with 202 indication) for a component with 50 indication from another board (old ps2 fat board, should be compatible components though).
also replaced sx component for another same-looking component from another ps2 slim board (GH-32-11) (also near same chip/location).
after doing that the board responded the way i described far above :(
as a last resort replaced ps14 for a fuse with 252 indication and replaced sx point couple of times with same-looking components from the other slim board.
still no change.
now back to 50 indicated fuse for ps14 and completely removed sx component (i've read this should be fine). still no change.
Now for the question ;)
Does anyone have any thoughts on this one? i know this is a long shot.
btw, i also checked all the fuses using multi-meter, just like checking resistor (i don't know if this is the correct way). they all check out.
If anyone has any thought please let me know ;)
o yeah, i also made a photo of the board (the have that has been touched at least). so for it being a bit blurry. if requested, will try to make better photo
