PS2 SCPH-50001 help –
01-11-2009,04:52 AM
i have a ps2 scph-50001. it will read most of my dvd games. they are all originals. i'm having trouble reading gt4 and god of war 2. with gt4 it read it just fine but then i saw that it was very dirty with prints and smeeres all over so i properly cleaned it. now it won't read it. with god of war 2 i bought the 2 disc edition. disc 1 is the game, which is a little scratched up, won't work. disc 2 is just a special features disc, that never gets used and doesn't have a single scratch, won't play either. i tried a backup of a different game and it did work. i also tried a couple of dvd movies and 1 didn't work. that one was scratchless. i cleaned the lens properly and cleaned as well as relubricated the long screw on the side that moves the laser. the only thing that i haven't tried is adjusting the voltage. i have been doing a lot of research on this and i read that you should only adjust the voltage if it is not reading all dvd discs. is that true? what should i do? has anyone encountered something like this? by the way god of war 2 works on my other ps2 that is a slim ps2.

amazon.com should have one and newegg.com should have a hdd try it. it works great and no worry about ps2 games being scratched!

i don't want to play games off of a hdd at this time. all i want to know is if it would be a good idea to adjust the voltage for the laser to help read the dvd discs.

most people will say doing anything with the laser other than cotton swab. it will destroy the laser faster but the hdd can be replaced much eaiser than the ps2 laser lens can be. and the ps2 you have is the same as mine and its hard to find parts for that model. i know you said no the hdd which is alright but later on maybe get one!
