PS2 SCPH-30004R problem: turns on with green light, but stays idle
PS2 SCPH-30004R problem: turns on with green light, but stays idle –
I have a playstation 2, model SCPH-30004R (version 5/6). Yesterday I turned it on, as always, and was loading Fifa 13. The game was taking longer than usual to load. 2 or 3 minutes had passed while on the EA Sports logo screen when suddenly the PS made a strange sound (like a dish-washer) for some 3 seconds, and it started smelling like something was burning. I turned the PS off.
Ever since, whenever I turn it on, the fan starts spinning, the power light goes from red to green, but nothing happens. No image, no Bios, nothing. I press the eject button but the DVD tray doesn't open either. What could this be?
I read another topic here at the forum (can't post the link). It seems like the exact same problem... But IIRC the blue light on the eject button still turns on. At this topic, the best suggestion seems to be the BA5815FM chip fried.
In my case, is it really the IC Driver chip that has fried? How come (the PS was only on for a couple of minutes)? Could it be anything else?
Any help is very appreciated
