On the slim I did a direct solder wires to the board near where the ribbon plugs in on the front right of the board. I cant quite remember but I pretty sure there is 4 or 5 wires and it was the outer wires. so the ones in the middle were led light and ir sensor. THe outer 2 were the power button. you can test it with a volt meter and a single piece of wire. Be very careful not to blow any fuses. The reason I did this is because I made a PS1 fatty body with a PS2 slim internal.

Now that is something I'd like to see!
I'm getting all kinds of ideas now.
I could put a v12-13 slim in a FAT case and still have room for a 2.5" HDD via SATA adapter, small NAS, and 2.5" USB HDD.
Perhaps I could also fit a slim multi-tap, USB hub, and A/V switch box.

i COULD do solder thin 26/24 awg wire's on the board to the reset pcb. but i don't wanna risk burning out the connector on the ps2 board. what i did was i inserted thin copper 26 awg wires on the ps2 board directly to the reset pcb. it DID work and i was able to turn it on/off. but the thing is, the green light when it's powered ON didn't work, only the red standby light was on.

no big deal for me, but kinda wondering if i shorted something on the circuit.

    thanks for the replies btw!

EDIT: once in awhile i open up my ps2 fat for couple of reasons. the flex cable that connects to the reset/eject pcb is REALLY thin and can be damaged well easily.

Thats exactly what I did. I had the PS2 Slim SATA adaptor installed. (ordered it from a guy in china, was directed there from this site. Its called PS2 sata conversion kit or similar name cant quite remember)

So this PS1/2 I put a 500GB HDD in it. There was a cover on the back (for some kind of PS1 add-on removable for access) of it I hooked up to a USB cable so you can put it near your computer to install games. The disc motor and laser are dummy. Just to look like its there. But the motor and most of the optical setup was removed and I had to reinforce it with metal strips cause it needed to be as thin as one layer of plastic, It was built for a guy going to jail for 10 years for trying to run over a cop. You can only have PS1 in jail in Canada, It took me 50 hours to build.

It would not have been possible without all you guys since I am a mixture of you all. I'm sorry but I don't have pics of it cause it was like a request and honestly it was the most fun mod ever. I will make another one and post pics. There is lots of things I plan on doing different. The motherboard of the PS2 was larger than the new new slimmy's I noticed the newer slims have a motherboard about half the size of the one I used. So the one I make for myself I will use that version. My sister has a white PS2 and I had it apart to solder the open tray button connection points together and i was startled on how small the newer slim motherboards are. quite small. I could get a lot of hard drives in it. one for games one for music and one for ****. =]

That really is a unique concept... so he's allowed a PS1, but how about games? Is he allowed a computer or something?

    thanks for the info.

probably a cat5 copper wire will do the trick to power up the unit w/o using those weak flex cables.

The whole idea behind no PS2's is they are allowed to use anything that can't use networking capabilities. So you can't use a gamecube, xbox ect.. Stuff with network's can't be uses so the prisoner can't organize a jail bombing or break or whatever you might be able to do with networking? With this system I built him his woman was able to load all his PS2 collection on it. (With my guidence as she does not hang out here) I also helped them load all the movies and ****. The memory cards are soldered directly to the mobo. So the PS1/2 doesnt even need a memory card plugged in. The only ports that actually are active is controller 1 and 2. I just used small 1 inch jumper wires from the PS2 mobo to the PS1 controller port. Another thing I did was instead of use a green light I put a blue light in for the power light. ( I had to makle it stand out in use, but not when going through security) He is in federal prison so it's open gate concept. His last report is that it's working great and how do you make a **** playlist or music playlist in SMS. I told him I dont think you can make a playlist unless you juist have the specific music/**** moved into another folder. So folder = playlist.

As for computers in Canada jail. It is a no go. But I could build you a T.V. with one inside it. :P

great work on building the ps2 slim on the psx case. i don't think i have the patience to work on it. i probably would have placed the slim motherboard on an microATX case just for kicks.
