    Hi,
I recently purchased a Fat PS2 (39003), It works great with OPL (r455) over SMB, but to gain the bit of extra performance on those few games where the FMV skips I purchased a PS2 Network Adapter, to use with a Maxtor 40GB IDE HDD I have. I checked the Drive Compatibility list and 4 people used the exact model Maxtor I have, successfully, so I thought great.
The network Adapter arrived today and the first thing I noticed was that unlike the pictures I had seen, which showed a 56k modem port & a Ethernet Port, my Network Adapter only as the Ethernet Port. I dismissed this thinking it was probably an early model Network Adapter (A Guess). Anyway, the Ethernet port works fine (Tested with a SMB Connection to OPL). I then fit my Maxtor IDE HDD, and then went to HDDManager (within uLe) to f0ormat it to PSF (Which I read is the procedure to start with), but it said No HDD connected, so I tried loading HDLoader.elf, and it also said it could not detect a HDD. I did the same procedure with a 20GB Maxtor, a 80GB Maxor (On the list as working), a variety of Maxtor HDDs (4 in total) ranging from 20GB to 200GB (20gb, 60gb, 120gb,200gb) which werent on the list and finally one of my PC HDDs (a 250GB Seagate, which is also on the list as working). For each one it said no HDD is connected, using both HDDManager (uLe 4.51) & HDLoader (8.0c). I am now thinkinh that there is a fault with the IDE part of the Network adapter (A guess), as the HDDs do power up when in the PS2 (as you can hear some, and all of them were slightly warm when I removed them after testing).

Is there anyway to test if the Network Adapter is working properly ? Do the earlier Adapters have issues where they can only read Soiny HDDs or something ? Anyone have any idea what the problem is ?

I really would like to have an internal HDD in my fat PS2 and as I have 8 as spare I may as well make use of one, wih something I use (my fat PS2), so anything that helps point me on the right road would be great.

Thanks for any sugeestions to this problem, that are offered.

    Regards.

I would suggest taking the HD that you want to use and hooking it to PC and Formatting with WinHIIP_V1.7.6 and any HD to the 48 bit on it if you can then testing it again. Just make sure that you format the right HD

    V10 SCPH-50001 with Network adapter SCPH-10281 500 G HD
    PSP 3000 9G 6.20 PRO CFW Perm
Unofficial FMCB v1.8C OPL self compiled HD and SMB preferred
Is how all good gaming systems came to be

Ok, I did that and although it does power up, you ca hear it quite clearly, Neither HDLoader or OPL (r455) recognise it as even being connected. as a side note, before formatting it with winhiip 1.7.6, when the HD I want to use (my Maxtor 40gb) was originally formatted as NTFS, not even uLe recognised it as being there when i tried to access it through the filebrowser. :/

Yes, the jumpers were all set to master, I tried cable select, too, with no joy. I've come to the same conclusion about the adapter being a dud. :/

I'm gonna do a last post in the HDD forum, about no HDD being detected, to see if anyone who checks there as a different idea, but I think it'll come down to the conclusion we both arrived at.

Thx for trying to help, anyway, buddy.

    :>
