    Hi,

Got a DRE problem and followed all guides on net. So i've now concluded that its the lasers problem. I've got a SCPH-30003R and it has a KHS-400R laser inside. Now I know the HD7 laser is newer (so i presume better?) and wondering if it is a direct replacement? I.E Can i buy a HD7 and install that or do i have to get a KHS-400R?

Also is it fairly positive to be a laser problem? I was playing a game, the game went blank, restarted PS2 and it wouldnt load discs, just show a Disc Read Error; sound like a dead laser or something else?

Please help asap as i want to buy tonight!

    Thanks!

I wouldn't go for the HD7 - they are probably the worst laser ever released by sony. If a v9 or 10 dies its almost always due to the dodgy hd7.

But its the same for all PS2's. Almost all the time any version dies, its due to the laser but should i go for a KHS-400R then? Also the HD7 i had my eye on was a Sanyo replacement.

All the lasers seem to have a problem and i was hoping the latest (HD7) would be the best. So KHS-400R or HD7?? Please reply soon as i was just about to order the HD7 and thought i would check here first to see if there were more opinions lol.

The R laser is a HD7. Just have a smaller plastic cap. It uses a older version of the laser diode, making it eletrically similar to 400B lasers. Still it uses a heavier lens assembly demanding some modification on the eeprom to tell the mechanics controller this laser coils demand more juice to move.

I agree with the HD7 lasers being crappy, but the real reason for V9 and V10 dying is mechacon crash.
