Hey guys, im sure youve more than had enough of posts about disc read errors but this one is more about what way (since i have a few different solutions) you would try to fix this issue.

Ok, ive obtained a PS2 that powers up but refuses to read any discs (ps2 cd\dvd, ps1, dvd, cd) and im looking for the best course of action. Ive tried cleaning it with alcohol etc but its still coming up with the same error. I remember reading something about calibrating it, can anyone shine any light on that? Is there something else i can do before i try to replace it?

Ive got another PS2 here (both same versions i think) that has the InfinityMod chip but the system refuses to power up and is assumed to be dead but can maybe be used for spares for the new system that doesnt read discs.

The old system has a hdd and network adapter that used to be booted from the mod chip but the new system doesnt have a mod chip so id hoped to boot using the memory card exploit but as ive said it refuses to read ps1 games.

So should i....

1. Replace the new systems dvd drive with the dvd drive from the old (dead) one? How hard is this? Ive taken the drive completely out my old system but it doesnt look to friendly to get it into the new system.

2. Take out the modchip from the old system and put it into the new one, again how difficult is this? i take it ill need a soldering iron to attached it to the new system?

3. Take the motherboard out the new system and try to get the old dead system going again? (i see this like going backwards since the new system actually powers up).

4. Something ive missed?

Im assuming that the memory card exploit needs to be executed by a ps1 disc and cant simply be executed by going through the browser or over the network connection somehow?

Any thoughts\ideas\recommendation will be much appreciated.

Cheers.
