I have a V12 slim PS2 that I got off ebay. I replaced the laser thinking that it was the problem. I fiddled with the POTs on the laser to no avial. Any suggestions are appricated.

PS I did removed the Glob of solder on the new laser.

you called your topic "ps2 disc not spinning", so what's the problem?
if the disc doesn't spin, why did you change the laser?
better check out the connections for your cd/dvd drive, and check out if the curent flows.

I read on some other forums that it was a laser problem. They said the PS2 was not "seeing" the disc initially. All of the connectors are connected. I replaced the ASSEMBLY is what I meant to say. (Spindle motor, worm drive and laser.) Any suggestions on what I should check?

normally the laser drives into his end position, when the micro swich on it
is pressed (check this out, maybe you've got the wrong laser unit), than it drives a little bit forward to the first boot-data position of the
cd/dvd. After that, the laser diode is powered on and the sens is goin up and down to find the right position, during that the motor starts spinning two short times (as far as i remember, he does this regardless of if there is a cd/dvd inserted or not).
analyse the problem step by step.

And if it really is the end-switch, you also can modify the laser unit by yourself,
so that the switch is being triggered in the right moment.

It drives forward, then it turns on the laser and focuses on the disc trying to read it. The micro switch is tripping correctly but the motor does not spin. I have 2 motors and 2 lasers, I have tried combinations of both and neither work. I heard about the RS2004?? chip being bad, should I replace it? How do I check to see if it is bad?

i think i cant help you any further with this problem, maybe you should track down
the traces whwere the motor is connected and see it there is something fishy.
or just do a search in this forum for "rs2004".
if you could get the datasheet for thic chip, you probably can figure out
if it works correctly or not (but that might be a pain in the ass).

I checked the RS2004FS chip and I can't find anything wrong with it. The initial problem still remains which is the console turns on, brings up the browser and I can see memory cards but I can not get a disc to read because it will not spin. The laser is good as far as I know. Anyone know what is going on?

Check the fuses, one of them controls the disc spinning, I believe it is PS13.
