I've seen a few posts with different mods had this prob but I don't see solutions posted.
The drive spins up, video and sound begin (sony screen when first power on) then unit shuts off.
It's a v14 PS2 slimline.
Any ideas?

is it the first batched released cause they were defective
is the pro and the plus the same chip then??
P
The first prob was that you have to bridge pins 8 and 9 - I didn't notice that pin 7 caught a little solder ball and was bridged to 8, so removed that little bit of solder. Worked great after that - booted DVDs, backups and originals consistently.
Now for a real tough problem - when reassembling after testing everything thoroughly and hotglue to ensure things stay put one of the screws chopped the "G" wire. When I removed the hot glue the vias for "G" and "I" came up. The one for "B" doesn't look so good.
Where can I find a pic for alternate points on the chip legs or elsewhere for B,G and I??? I can't use the DMM to find since the little gold rings are no longer there to touch with the probes. But yes - the PS2 still plays originals fine so it's not fubared without them<phew>
Thanks for the help
Get the Matrix infinity install diagrams for your mobo. There you will see the "alternate" points you're looking for are actually the pins of the huge DSP chip (CXD3098Q).
It's tricky to solder the mod there, but definitelly not impossible.
Good luck![]()
Thx for the pointer - no prob finding the diagram.
You aren't kidding about them being tricky - used the paper trick to avoid splash / bridging and it works great.
