Ps2 bad audio –
Currently have a ps2, but it has developed a strange fault, wounder if any one here could share some light on this
basicly the fault is, when you switch it on, you get the sound and picture as you usually would, but the sound is not quite right, sounds like there some sort of static intference with the sound, sounds like crackling
anyone shed some ideas on this?
thanks in advance who replys
is that sound coming from the "standard" output or the optical output?
Sorry, its coming out from the standard av output, i dont have anything to try the digital output
So it are those standard white and red plugs?
Or what kind of connection do you have? Scart?
Did you try other devices on the same inputs on your tv?
Is the cable still alright? Do you have a friend that has a ps2 and can you borrow that cable to see if that changes something?
Did you open up the ps2 and is the ground to the AV connecter still alright? I've heard somewhere that if the ground is messed up, the sound can be kind of distorted.
I'm no expert, just trying to help.
I am using the av out from the ps2 to the red, white and yellow inputs of the tv, the cable has been tested on another ps2 and the cable and tv are ok
the ps2 is currently dismantled, trying to find the fault, the pins for the av seem ok, do you know what the bad earth is at all, i could perhaps check this to see if this is the problem
I can only tell you that I have found this:
Possible solution for video and sound problems from a poster:
My video and sound wouldn't come out. Turns out that there wasn't a good connection between the metal shell of the video out port and the heatsink. I believe the metal shell of the video out is the ground so a good connection is a must. What happened in my case was because I placed my modchip so close to the edge it wouldn't give a perfect fit, so it bulged a bit. After I tightened up certain areas and made sure there was contact between the metal casing of the video out and the heatsink, it works fine. The sound also cut out in this case. So if your PS2 exhibit those symptoms look around the video out port and see what's happening.
