PS2 backups give RSOD –
My v3 ps2 has a brand new laser in it, but still won't read ps2 dvd backups. CD backups work fine, original PS2 dvds/cds play fine but DVD backups begin to spin up then immediately give a RSOD. What can I do?
check all modchip points. was the laser actually new or a refurb.
Refurb from letsmod, he's supposed to be a reliable source though. It was tested before he shipped it out.
Im having the same problem too. I have v5 30001R PS2 with a Duo 2 SE. My orginals (CD/DVD) work fine, and the CD Backups work fine too. But when I try to boot a DVD-R burned game the ps2 gives me RSOD. I was playing Tekken 4 this past sunday and it was working fine and havent played it until tonight and its give all my dvd-r burned games (including my backup copy of Tekken 4 that was working this past sunday) a RSOD except for my CD backups and CD/DVD orginals. Its just so strange for my ps2 to do this after playing sunday and then for some reason crap out on my dvd-r backups. Am i looking at having to get a slim ps2 or just get a new laser? Please put me in the right direction on what to do. Thanks
sounds to me like a wire ot two have comne loose
Use Sony DVD-R's for your backups (the old 30001 models are very picky).
Burn them only on 4x speed or less.
Try to hold your PS2 in your hands during boot up, with the fan showing to the ground and use your ears to listen to the sounds from your drive (try out different positions if this doesn't work).
By time you will find out in which position your PS2 will boot best.
By using bad media your laser will loose his gripp and gets more worse day by day (do your PS2 something good and buy yourself a HDD).
Have a nice day!
nite, you should have contacted me
I'm not totally sure it's the laser, can you offer some help? What media do you recommend, what did you test with?

I use Ritek media only (4x) and burn at 4x
Not sure if I have access to any G04s but I'll check.
