i was the first to say that the wide lens problem can be fixed by addjusting the dvd pot!!!!Originally Posted by automan
read the posts and see!!!
I also was the fist to claim that the chips are the blame to the dead lens and that it's all happend during patching . but i was flamed cose of that. this also can be read on my older post as "XcalibEr".
When I see wide lens I increase(like Comsoft sayed) dvd pots aprrox 1500ohm(I made 4 units)and now I wait(Only time will tell)...
I must say for v13; when happened crash I plug off power cord then I touched to the lens(this happened second time on different pstwo console),its warmand I see very very thin smoke...After crash coil value: 5.1-4.9 ohm yes not coil burn; but after how many crash coil can fry???
Sorry for crappy English.
Regards.
Just modded my first v13 today. Modbo1.2 with MI1.4 firmware. NO FIX or DVD Pot adjust. I will be doing another 20 V13's in the next month I hope and will be all the same. No FIX, NO Pot adjust. Will let you all know what happens. ie Australian PAL V13's.
I modded a slim last week and its already gone back to customer, I applied subzero fix but am now wondering if it was V13, the fuse that subzero gets soldered to was a small one with the number on top like in the automans photo, could it have been v13 or wont subzero line up with v13, and if it was will having the fix applied hurt, BTW it was narrow laser
so whats the best setting for the pots...?
ps2 dvd pots...?
im confuse on adjusting it,
lower the better right, but the laser will have problem reading dvd..?
higher the worst right, its read the dvds but will have laser diode burn out later right...?
can anyone say which setting is would be good for dvd pots..?
I have never realy had to many problems with PVR lenses failing, maybe 2 or 3 during the whole year. Now the wide lenses is a completely different case. I adjusted a v12 with wide lens' pot from 1K2 to 1K4 on Saturday, on Monday the DVD diode was dead and it does not read any DVD formats. Increasing the resistance to much will result in difficult reading and if not now, will later cause issues with reading media. I don't think that adjusting it any higher would have prevented the lens from being damaged.
I would think that clipping the voltage to the DVD diode at a certain voltage or monitoring the gain control on the DVD diode would be the real answer to this problem.
i did wide laser pot adjustment from956 ohm to 1200ohm, 1300ohm and then 1400ohm. all my dvd-r back up worked fine with above settings (even better with some discs), but dvd+r dl stoped working. i had to turn the pot back to under 1000ohm for the dvd+r dl to work again.
hmmm maybe that suggests that DVD+R have a lower reflective index and as such are more likely to wear out your laser, I would tune for -R and just not use your +R disks, would be safer that way. 1000 ohms is about factory setting for the wide lasers so you have not gained much by leaving it there.
1400 was probably a bit high and with a little dust on the lens and variation in quality of DVD-R media you may have eventually started having reading problems and needed to open up again. I would have left it at around 1200 if that worked fine for all media except +R
Sorry im real new to this. I can only burn dvd+r so i want to be able to play them. If i buy a premodded v13 with dms4 modchip and a summ0ne fix with factory settings for the laser, will i be able to play my games? I bring this up because of the inability to play dvd+r when the laser was changed and i would like to know if it would work if it wasnt changed. Sorry for my probably easy and noobie question.
